Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project’s Team, Legal and Policy Advisors Joint Statement Denouncing the Communist Party of China’s Imposition of Countermeasures

Ottawa, Canada

The Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project (URAP) and its advisors have issued the following joint statement to address the People's Republic of China's imposing sanctions on them under the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, aiming to silence the truth of the ongoing atrocities unfolding in the Uyghur Autonomous Region by intimidating those who document and call attention to them.

The countermeasures imposed by the Government of China are in response to the Government of Canada imposing sanctions against 8 former or current senior officials involved in human rights violations and abuses in the Uyghur Autonomous Region. Despite these sanctions, the international community, including the Canadian government and global human rights defenders, must continue advocating for the Uyghur people and other communities in China marginalized by the Communist Party of China.

Our joint statement reflects the collective position of our organization and dedicated advisors. These sanctions will not deter our collective efforts; instead, they will strengthen our resolve to defend Uyghur rights and hold the Chinese government accountable for its actions. The fight for human rights will persist until all people can live with dignity and freedom.
