URAP STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO ALLEGED MISCONDUCT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project (URAP) strongly condemns any harassing or discriminatory behaviour in workplaces.

In light of recent allegations, as reported in an article on Friday, May 10 relating to several Uyghur individuals and organizations, URAP has internally reviewed our accountability, and complaint procedures and has established a stronger Code of Ethical Conduct. We have also established robust whistleblower protections to safeguard those coming forward with complaints.

URAP is an independently operating Canadian organization subject to Canadian law and jurisdiction.

We are committed to maintaining a harassment- and discrimination-free organization, adhering to the Canadian Human Rights Code and other relevant laws and regulations. In accordance with the Code, we have established policies pertaining to harassment, sexual harassment, retaliation and discriminatory policy or practice. URAP is extremely sensitive to strictly applying the ethical standards required for workplace safety in Canada.

We support the impartial investigations taking place at both the World Uyghur Congress and the Uyghur Human Rights Project.

URAP operates independently from both organizations in our programming, policies, and internal mechanisms. URAP undertakes extraordinary measures to ensure non-interference from foreign agents in our activities. We remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing justice for Uyghurs in Canada and worldwide.
