URAP initiates nationwide campaign joined by 120+ faith leaders and community organizations

The Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project has initiated Nationwide campaign joined by 120+ faith leaders and community organizations urging the government of Canada to take concrete and meaningful action to address the ongoing Uyghur genocide perpetuated by PRC.

Over 3 years Uyghur community in exile, including here in Canada, campaigned to highlight the atrocities that their loved ones faced in China and the trauma experienced by the Uyghur Diaspora worldwide. The international community has failed to act to end the ongoing genocide of Uyghurs in their homeland, East Turkistan.

“Despite limited verbal expression of concerns and disturbances, overall response in Canada and worldwide has not been sufficient” said Mehmet Tohti, executive director of Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project, ongoing genocide under our watch has to be addressed by swift action and time of that action is now, he added.

The undersigned representatives of multi-faith groups, human rights organizations and prominent advocates, are asking our government to uphold its legal obligation as a signatory of the Genocide Convention, and act alongside with our international allies, to take concrete actions through diplomatic, humanitarian and other effective ways. We should not shy away from calling out China’s horrific acts against the Uyghur people, irrespective of what label might be applied.

We urge the government of Canada take this matter seriously and answer the call of broad base Canadian public.

Please read the letters in English and French.
