Press Release on URAP’s new report “Uyghur Family Destruction- China’s Continual Instrument of Uyghur Genocide”

Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project (URAP) is releasing its new report highlighting the scope and gravity of Uyghur Family Destruction by the government of  China  and its accumulative and amplified consequence that has caused in Uyghur Society in East Turkistan and abroad.

To Complete  this critical Report URAP  has studied more than 600  voluntarily submitted testimonies from the Uyghur victims and identified eight forms of family separation that led to the  Family Destruction (UFD) as an ultimate goal.

“Testimonies of victims are heart-wrenching and reflecting the full swing nature of the China’s government’s efforts to  deliberately attack  at the core foundation of the Uyghur community, in order  to break family unity apart,” said Mehmet Tohti, Executive Director of URAP.

Family is the foundation of every society that plays a bridging role between generations.

According to article 16(3) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948, “Family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by Society and the State.

By destroying  the Uyghur Family, China’s government is aiming to socially re-engineering whole Uyghur society for the realization of the  cinisized model families that fit China’s homogenic and xenophobic imagination.

Destruction of Uyghur families is the inevitable and cumulative outcome of the consistent policy of China’s government levied against Uyghurs with genocidal intent.

Based on extensive research, interviews and analyses of the collection of first hand testimonies from the Uyghur victims, URAP concluded that Uyghur family Destruction has long history, fully  integrated to the all level government polies and carried out via various forms of family separation such as through internment of significant portion of the population in concentration camps, enforced disappearances, enforced separation of family members, including children, imposition of lengthy prison terms, enforced displacements, denial of the recognition of nationality rights, coerced divorce, coerced marriage to Chinese males, enforced denunciation or disowning family members, enforced measures preventing birth, mass gang rape of detainees and state appointed Chinese cadres living in Uyghur households.
